Texas Advanced Leadership and Advocacy Conference Accepting Applications for March 2009
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – "We are excited to announce a new statewide conference," says Dr. Dalun Zhang, project director of the Texas Advanced Leadership and Advocacy Conference (TALAC). "It's designed especially for adults with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities."
TALAC, scheduled for March 23 and 24, 2009 at the Doubletree Austin Hotel, will provide two days of leadership and advocacy training. Conference participants can expect to leave with a renewed idea of what is possible by identifying methods to successfully promote and advocate for policy and systems change. They will also be able to define current legislative issues and will gain knowledge in how to collaboratively advocate for change alongside local and statewide advocacy organizations.
The priority deadline for applications has been extended to Dec. 1. Applications meeting the priority deadline will be the first to be considered for support funds. The final application deadline is Jan. 5. A registration fee of $70 is the responsibility of the participant, which is due upon the participant’s selection. If this fee is a financial burden, a limited number of needs-based registration waivers are available. This fee is refundable if registration is canceled by Monday, Feb. 16, 2009. All participants will be provided two-nights’ lodging at the conference hotel and will be reimbursed for up to $200 in travel expenses (i.e., airfare or mileage). This conference is a project of the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University with financial support from the Texas Department for Developmental Disabilities (funding: $112,500 (66.8%) TCDD and $37,330 (33.2%) match from Texas A&M).
