A&M's Center on Disability and Development to Host Regional Meeting of the Disability Policy Consortium Nov. 29
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University invites the community to a regional meeting of the Disability Policy Consortium on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the College Station Conference Center at 1300 George Bush Drive.
This meeting is free and open to the public. It is especially geared toward individuals and organizations interested in affecting public policy for persons with disabilities. Participants will learn how they can join the statewide efforts of the DPC, which is a network of disability advocacy organizations in Texas promoting improved access to and quality of services for Texans with disabilities. The DPC is a project of the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities.
Dr. Linda Parrish, who represents the Center on Disability and Development to the DPC, says that DPC members not only have access to the latest information affecting people with disabilities and their families, but they get the opportunity to make a real difference in the disability community.
"As a member of the DPC, you're no longer just one voice. Your voice joins a chorus that initiates change at the state level," says Parrish.
For more information, see the DPC web site or contact Toni Byrd, DPC Project Coordinator, at 512-371-1783 or toni@dpctexas.org. RSVPs to the meeting are appreciated. Refreshments will be served.
The Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University supports people with disabilities and their families by 1) providing community services and training; 2) conducting research and evaluation to improve school services and outcomes and increase the quality of community living for people with disabilities; and 3) offering graduate education through Texas A&M University in disability studies.
